As Chief Engineer for Commercial Vehicle Electrification at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Ken provides strategic leadership, technical expertise, and project management across a range of research projects focused on electrification of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. He has over 30 years of experience working with government and industry partners conducting vehicle technology research. His research interests include advanced vehicle and transportation technologies for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses; port and airport electrification; alternative fuel vehicle emissions; hybrid electric vehicle systems; advanced heat transfer technologies; computer aided engineering and robust design methods. Ken has authored or co-authored over 200 technical publications in these research areas. Ken also spent two years on assignment at the Hawaii State Energy Office as NREL’s Senior Project Leader of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI). He holds M.S. and B.S degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio University. His industry experience includes manufacturing engineering at Swagelok Corporation and at Sun Power Inc. which specializes in Stirling engine technologies.
